Gettin' Our Snow In

My girl friend told me a few weeks ago, "We need to go to the snow at least once so I can get my snow in for the year".

After going to college in Dayton Ohio, one day of snow is just the right amount for her. So we went up past the city I was born in, Auburn California up Highway 80 to Truckee California. That's located on just the other side of Donner's Pass in the Sierra Nevada's.

This is what Donner's Pass looks like.

All that fog below is Donner Lake, which was closed off because of the government shut down. But we were able to find a place to park on the side of the road and walked out to a dock to take the below picture.

Traffic to Tahoe was backed up all the way to Truckee when we got there. I overheard someone in a class of mine say it took him 6 hours to drive back to Chico from Tahoe. This drive took us just a little over an hour.

I didn't take a picture but we also stopped at Dark Horse Coffee in Truckee. The coffee here was simply amazing. Worth the drive alone.

If you aren't looking to snowboard but want to see some nice views, good coffee, and a creepy lake I'd recommend Truckee. Boreal Ski Resport is just a few miles before Donnor pass on Highway 80 but I wouldn't recommend it if you are an avid boarder. It's very small but it's where I learned to Ski when I was just 4 years old.

Well, we got our snow in for the year.
